My daughter in law called awhile back and said, “I mailed a package to your house for Taylor. The two of you have to open it together and Char has to take pictures.”
Taylor is my youngest granddaughter, without knowing what was in the package I agreed.
The package arrived safely and then we had to wait for Taylor as well as an opportunity to facetime Desiree, my daughter in law. Finally, things came together. Char connected with Desiree on facetime, I was sitting on the floor with Taylor and a pair of scissors ready to open the package. The magic moment had arrived. I cut open the package which revealed two beautiful T-shirts. One read, “If you think I am cute you should see my Uncle”. We all laughed. The other read, “Papa’s Side Kick”. Taylor always calls me Papa and I loved the T-shirt.
Char put the T-shirt on Taylor and then said, “Taylor, your T-shirt says ‘Papa’s Side Kick’”. Taylor looked down at her bright yellow shirt, turned around, walked over and kicked me in the ribs as hard as a two year old can. Okay, I’ll admit it – it kind of hurt.
Words are powerful, especially when you are two years old with a limited vocabulary.
